IT BUSINESS ANALYST

IT Business Analyst reports to the IT Director and is responsible for analysis and evaluation of the existing and emerging business practices and needs as it relates to IT and works to translate that understanding into support for the development of new processes and systems. The ideal candidate will embrace the company's mission and work to become a trusted adviser to the business team and provide an important bridge between them and the technology team.

The initial work will involve supporting the implementation of a new cloud-based ERP system. Working with the project team and system implementation vendor, the focus initially will be to provide needs analysis and functional and issue-resolving expertise with the goal of improving efficiencies across the functional teams.  Functional areas include publishing operations, administrative and information services, records, online commerce, and finance (AR, AP, financial reporting).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Evaluate business processes and determine areas for improvement to the current process regarding systems.
  2. Develop and communicate detailed functional requirements and objectives to ensure alignment between business requirements and supporting systems.
  3. Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to resolve questions that arise during development, maintaining a positive working relationship.
  4. Provide support and leadership for business involvement in systems development processes, including requirements definition, data conversion, and testing.
  5. Elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, tasks and workflow analysis.
  6. Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs.
  7. Serve as the conduit between the customer community (internal and external customers) and the IT team through which requirements flow.
  8. Successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in information systems or related field from an accredited college or university and relevant job experience.
  • 3+ years working with business applications and solutions that are vendor and custom as well as have experience with implementations of large scale projects.
  • Strong understanding of systems and their underlying technologies to be able to provide technology solutions.
  • Systems implementation skills: requirements/process analysis, conceptual and detailed design, configuration, testing, training, change management, support.
  • Experience working with multiple systems and integrations between systems.
  • Business process analysis and redesign experience: strong business analysis skills; process mapping; business process redesign and implementation.
  • Effectively promote process best practices.
  • Strong project management skills and experience.
  • Ability to engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Ability to manage projects, as well as the ability to influence and manage relationships where no direct line of report exists.
  • Communication skills: strong presentation/ communication / facilitation skills (oral and written).
