ORACLE DATABASE SUPPORT ENGINEER
ROLE:
The candidate will be a technical hands on member of the Database Administration team providing infrastructure services and operational support on a global basis for both Oracle and Microsoft SQL technologies. The role will consist of a combination of incident, requests and proactive platform management activities.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Provide excellent technical support for Oracle and SQL Database environment.
• Provide operational support for DB issues initiated from Incidents or Changes.
• Provide solutions and root-cause analysis of system performance and failure related issues.
• Work on an onsite shift-rota and provide off site 24x7 support.
• Work on projects and provide close liaison with project teams to ensure the smooth transition
of new databases and initiatives into the Production environment.
• Work closely with manager and team members.
• Review and recommend options to improve the effectiveness of the database infrastructure.
• Establish / maintain best practices, processes and procedures to underpin the operations of
the business.
• Performance monitoring / Testing and capacity planning.
• Creation / maintenance of full system documentation, including DR documentation.
• Innovation – continually looking at ways to improve infrastructure, for a faster and more
efficient environment.
• To fulfil additional / ad hoc duties as requested in order to meet the needs of the business.
SKILLS:
• Excellent working knowledge of Oracle RDBMS 9i1011g
• Excellent working knowledge of Oracle RAC
• Excellent working knowledge of Oracle Forms
• Excellent working knowledge of SQL 2000200520082012
• Experience working with NOSQL
• Experience using a scripting language to automate tasks
• Excellent working knowledge of SQL High Availability features
• Experience of performance and tuning optimizing SQL DB’s
• Experience of monitoring and alerting tools for DB’s
KNOWLEDGE:
• Experience of ITIL v3 standards or a certificate in ITIL v3 foundation skills beneficial
• Oracle/ MS SQL Server certification preferable
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
EXPERIENCE:
• 5 + years of DBA experience with strong Oracle RDBMS and SQL 200520082012
• Proven track record of operational support and delivery
• The candidate will be a member of a Database Administration team providing infrastructure
services and operational support across a global company
• Ability to and experience of working in fast-paced, technology led environment
• Experience of using best practice IT Service Management tools to log and manage user calls
and provide first time resolution where practical
• Experience of Service Now is preferred
• Must be able to demonstrate competency and exposure to:
o Oracle 11g/12c database architecture and performance tuning
o Oracle Real application cluster
o SQL server Always on and Mirroring and Cluster setup
o Shell scripting
o Sybase
