Job Description
UNIX/HPUX/SOLARIS SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR
Our financial client is seeking to hire a UNIX Systems Administrator that will be part of their Enterprise Systems group. This role is responsible for the installation and maintenance of HPUX and Solaris, hardware and software systems and provides technical analysis and design support for applications running on the UNIX platforms. The individual manages project and task deliverable commitments, system changes and upgrades, as well as performs system debugging tasks.
The job responsibilities are as follows:
1 Provides end users, developers and Operations with support including off shift and on call support.
2 Plans, prepares and applies maintenance fixes to system software and firmware as required.
3 Prepares, installs and implements operating software and associated components.
4 Debugs and solves problems associated with Unix servers in production and test environments.
5 Maintains Unix disaster recovery plan and actively participates in technology and business recovery activities including travelling to recovery site for hardware maintenance.
6 Tests and implements hardware and software upgrades and if necessary works off shift to implement changes with minimal downtime.
7 Assists in evaluating and testing new hardware and software.
8 Develops test plans for implementing new software or new releases of software.
9 Works closely with architecture, engineering and security to implement new products and upgrade existing infrastructure.
10 Perform system and application backup and restores based on documented procedures.
Requirements
1 Thorough knowledge and experience in all facets of Unix systems administration.
2 knowledge of networking concepts, TCP/IP, routing, firewalls and network security.
3 Strong organizational skills with ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects.
4 Excellent communication skills with the ability to delegate and influence others.
5 Results oriented, exhibits excellent judgment, and has relentlessly high standards.
6 High degree of initiative and sense of urgency, flexibility, adaptability and comfort with ambiguity as needs change on a regular basis.
Required Skills/Abilities
1. Proficiency in HPUX and Solaris Systems Administration.
2 Solid understanding of HP Integrity and SUN SPARC hardware architecture.
3. knowledge of shell scripting and some experience with Perl scripting is a +.
4. Effective communication skills and ability to exercise proper judgement.
