Job Description


Our financial client is looking to hire a Windows System Engineer to be part of the Windows Support Team with the primary function of providing day-to-day Windows server and associated infrastructure services support and continual maintenance. The role will consist of a combination of incident, requests and proactive platform management activities.

The successful applicant will be one of the company's experts on Windows related technologies and will have to demonstrate strong automation skills along with the technical experience needed to build high-performance, resilient solutions. Technologies will include but not limited to, Windows Server, Exchange 2010, Active Directory, MS Lync, VMWare ESX, Netapp, Backup Exec, Powershell, File and Print Services, DNS, DFS, ADFS and SCCM.

Principal Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Provide support for a Windows, VMware and Citrix infrastructure in an enterprise Active Directory environment
  • Act as a visible point of contact for the Wintel Infrastructure (O/S and hardware)
  • Providing automated solutions, using VB and or PowerShell, on Microsoft and VMware technologies
  • Resolve and conduct root cause analysis of system performance / failure issues
  • Review and recommend options to improve the effectiveness of infrastructure
  • Establish and maintain best practices, processes and procedures to underpin the operations of the business
  • Provide close liaison with project teams to ensure the smooth transition of new applications, systems and initiatives into the production environment
  • Manage configuration, installation and release management
  • Conduct performance monitoring and testing
  • Manage production and maintenance of system documentation
  • Produce documentation and change control
  • Ensure delivery of objectives and goals and that appropriate incident reports are prepared in a timely manner
  • Prepare and maintain technical, process and operations documentation

Recognizes the effect a problem will have on the future i.e. sees cause and effect relationships e.g. if X happens then Y will occur and generates a number of alternative possible ways forward
  • Providing Direction – Thinking Strategically – Understands own business’ targets and goals and fully understands the competitive context in which it operates and looks for ways to add value to the organization. Periodically steps back from immediate operational concerns to check progress against broader goals and their fit with the organization’s strategic objectives

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5 years’ or more experience of working in a systems infrastructure role
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related disciplines
  • Must have Citrix, VMWare and Microsoft Certifications
  • Experience with PowerShell and VB Scripting
  • Knowledge of ITIL v3 standards or a certificate in ITIL v3 foundation skills beneficial
