SENIOR LINUX SYSTEM ENGINEERS

Overview of Role

We are seeking a highly motivated, self-starting Senior Systems Engineer to join an engineering team responsible for design, development and support our clients electronic broking division. The servers run on Red Hat Linux with a large scale global deployment. The successful candidate must be able to work independently while actively participating in a dynamic, global team. This position is well-suited for a person who wishes to be involved with many different aspects of platform engineering, which includes Red Hat Linux, storage, and advanced scripting for all of the above. There is an operations focus as well to this systems engineering and administration role. The candidate must have an eagerness and ability to learn new skills and work within a team.

Principal Responsibilities & Accountabilities

„h Hands on systems administration, hardware configuration activities, and software installation and deployment activities

„h Write advanced scripts for systems administration and operational tasks for trading engines

	Develop automated installation and maintenance solutions for OS and application layer products using Kickstart and other deployment methods (cobbler, Satellite, Enterprise Puppet, etc.) for Red Hat Linux and Windows „h Write thorough technical documentation for use by Operation staff „h Participate in on-call rotations and out of hours work as needed. „h Guide field staff with deployment of servers remotely „h Demonstrate a clear understanding of operations and technical requirements „h Performance tuning of software and OS stack „h Benchmarking of new hardware for R&D
	Competencies „h Excellent analytical and problem solving skills „h Comfortable with being hands-on with hardware „h Ability to communicate with all levels of staff, both within IT and Business units „h Strong documentation skills (using MS Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint) „h Strong scripting (PERL, PHP, Ruby, Bourne) „h Strong understanding of the Linux OS and kernel „h Ability to work independently, and own issues through to resolution
Professional/Technical Skills „h Advanced scripting (PERL, PHP, Ruby, Bourne) „h Strong understanding of TCP/IP and DNS „h Storage configuration skills using standard Linux tools (LVM, 3PAR) „h Familiarity with KVM and VMware virtualization „h Familiarity with Solarflare, kernel bypass is a plus „h Bios tuning and optimization for low latency platforms
Qualifications & Experience „h Bachelor’s degree in technical field such as computer science, engineering or science „h Minimum of eight years Linux or UNIX administration experience, Red Hat Linux preferred „h Systems engineering, integration and automation of mission critical platforms „h Experience managing high frequency, low latency trading systems is a plus „h Experience with large scale datacenter deployments „h RHCSA and/or RHCE preferred „h Financial services experience a plus.
